PROTECT - An integrated European model to protect mediterranean forests from fire

The Project

PROTECT – An Integrated European Model to Protect the MEDiterranean Forests from Fire – is a project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), in the framework of the MED Programme, (an EU transnational cooperation programme among the “Territorial Cooperation objective” of the EU Cohesion Policy).

The project comes from the necessity to wide spread, through an approach shared at transnational level, an integrated model for the prevention of forest fire with a focus on the protection of the environment and the promotion of a sustainable territorial development.

The Province of Macerata is the lead partner of the project which include 8 other partners:

  • 5 territorial partners from Spain, Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Cyprus and
  • 3 universities from Italy, Portugal and France.

The involvement of such authorities coming from different geographic areas, where forest fire is a common and frequent phenomenon, and concerned with diversified scientific fields, is due to the need of specific knowledge and expertise in fields related to the project PROTECT.
